we're falling on hard times
when the weather is so fine
drinking bottles of cheap wine
and holding on tight
i'm stopped on the freeway
and i'm wishing that he'd say
'i won't stop till a new day,'
dawns in the east
but we live on the west coast, and we smile with our eyes closed
with the hope that we've borrowed from somebody's cheer
for a sign that we're living despite pretty misgivings
we look for tomorrow, for a dawn without fear
but everyone knows, everyone knows....the sun only sets for us here
the flowers are blooming
the clock's tick is resuming
and we keep on assuming
that the glow will subside
when he asks me to try it
the dawn breaks in the quiet
the most beautiful riot
to ever break a heart
but we live on the west coast, and we smile with our eyes closed
with the hope that we've borrowed from somebody's cheer
for a sign that we're living despite pretty misgivings
we look for tomorrow, for a dawn without fear
but everyone knows, everyone knows....the sun only sets for us here
